Wonder if the fact that I’m running this on a SPARC has anything to do with it. The crowd in #linux would definitely answer with a resounding yes. I am seriously toying with the idea of migrating this server to a Dual PIII/1.4Ghz box I have in the garage. I’d pop Ubuntu Dapper on there and decommission this SPARC. However, losing the Lights-Out management and stuff would seriously suck, as this is in a colo facility. Dunno. But I do know that this 5-minute load average graph means that I’m gonna have to act in the not-too-distant future…
Decisions, decisions. This SPARC has done well, but I think its time may have come… and gone.
/me awaits the flood of comments and flames.
Bill, if you end up decommissioning the X1, you know where to send it.

[...] I’ve been threatening to do this for some time, and I finally have. I’ve replaced the Sparc that used to power this blog with an Intel box (2x 2.8Ghz Xeon). The Sparc was very reliable, but the load on it was rapidly approaching critical mass. I’ve migrated the blog and my mailserver over to this new server – but I knew I’d have capacity to spare, so I figured I’d put the web+mailserver in a VMware Server virtual machine. We are having some tremendously stellar experiences with VMWare Infrastructure at the office, so I figured why not roll out this new server as a VM? [...]
